Story Time / Songs/ Fingerplay
Turtle Splash Countdown at the Pond” by Cathryn Falwell

Outdoor Play/Gross Motor (Full Body Movement)
*  Stick, Ground, Ladder
This activity is simple to set up, needing nothing but a few sticks or pool noodles.

Lay your sticks or pool noodles on the ground. Place them parallel to each other, like the rungs of a ladder. Choose the spacing according to how big your child is.

Have your child jump from one gap between “rungs” to another. If your child gets good at two-foot jumping, mix things up and get them to hop.

As your child gets good at jumping, move the rungs a little further apart to keep it challenging.

*Crawl like a turtle...First crawl slow and then crawl fast.  Try crawling fast and slow with a pillow on your back like a turtle’s shell. Try to crawl fast and slow with other objects on your back like a book, blanket, toys, etc and see how long you can crawl before the objects fall off. Have the whole family join in and crawl like turtles!

Free Play Time
*build social/emotional muscles! Work on problem solving, language development and critical thinking skills through play

                                                             Turtle facts

Turtles are reptiles. They have a hard shell on their back which keeps them safe and protected.

Most turtles are able to hide their head & legs inside their shell  if they feel scared. The turtle’s shell is like their house.

Turtles can swim and have flippers or webbed feet. Tortoises live on the land.  They have feet that have toes which they use to walk & climb.

Turtles that live on the land move very slowly!
Land turtles eat bugs, grass, & fruit. Sea turtles eat algae, squid & jellyfish.

Baby turtles hatch from eggs.

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
