Hermit Crabs

The hermit crab is a type of crab that does not have
a hard shell. They use old shells for protection. This hermit crab is hiding
inside his shell to stay safe.

This hermit crab is walking on the sand with
the shell on his back.

When the hermit crab grows in size, it finds a larger shell.

Hermit crabs are omnivores (eating plants and
animals). They typically eat worms, plankton, and plants. This hermit crab is
eating mango.

A hermit crab has ten legs. The front two have claws on them, which the crab uses to walk. The rear pair of legs is used to grasp onto the crab’s shell.

A hermit crab’s color varies from red to brown
to purple. Some species also have stripes, dots, or other patterns.
